Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr.

Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. was born on September 5, 1970 to the late Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Sr., Ph.D., MDiv. and Mrs. Earnestine Jackson Burris.   Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the tender age of 7 on July of 1978. He was baptized at the Pleasant Green Baptist Church by the late Rev. Emmanuel McField.  Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. became a junior deacon at the age of thirteen. He moved his membership from the Pleasant Green Baptist Church to the Greater Morning Star Baptist Church in April of 1984 when his father, Dr. Charles Lee Burris, Sr., was elected as the next Senior Pastor. Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. was ordained as a Senior Deacon in 1995. He served faithfully as an ordained senior deacon, until the Lord called him to preach the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ on May 9, 1999. Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. preached his 1st sermon on Sunday June 6, 1999.  Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. was ordained to be the 2nd Assistant Pastor of the Greater Morning Star Baptist Church on February 10, 2008.

After twenty five years of dedicated service, the Lord Jesus Christ decided to call Dr. Charles Lee Burris, Sr. to heaven to rest from his labor on October 5, 2009. The Greater Morning Star Baptist Church was in great mourning over the loss of such a wonderful, kind, intelligent, dynamic, and charismatic Pastor. The Greater Morning Star Baptist Church went into a thoughtful and careful search for its next Senior Pastor by the guidance and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. On April 17, 2010, the Holy Spirit spoke to the membership, and Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. was elected Senior Pastor of the Greater Morning Star Baptist Church. On May 16, 2010, Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. was installed as the Senior Pastor of the Greater Morning Star Baptist Church by the 4th District Missionary Baptist Association and the East Baton Rouge Parish Minister’s Conference. Currently, Pastor Burris, Jr. serves as the 2nd Vice – President of the East Baton Rouge Parish Minister’s Conference, and the Director of the Associate Ministers Division of the 4th District Missionary Baptist Association of Louisiana.

Additionally, Pastor Burris, Jr. was educated extensively in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.  He graduated from Scotlandville Magnet High School on May 10, 1988. He attended Southern University and obtained a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering on May 14, 1993. Pastor Burris, Jr. also went to Graduate school at Southern University and graduated with a M.S. degree in Mathematics on May 12, 2006. In May of 2022, Pastor Burris, Jr. enrolled at the Liberty Theological Seminary of the John W. Rawlings School of Divinity at Liberty University located in Lynchburg, Virginia. He graduated with a M.A. in Christian Apologetics on May 13, 2023, and a Doctor of Ministry in Theology and Apologetics on January 23, 2026. He is currently pursuing advanced degrees at Liberty Theological Seminary in Pastoral Counseling and Homiletics (Preaching).

Lastly, Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. is employed at the Department of Development Subdivision Engineering Office of East Baton Rouge Parish / City of Baton Rouge.  He has occupied this position since August 23, 2006. On September 3, 2016, Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. married the former Maudhelen Francine Lewis. Rev. Charles Lee Burris, Jr. has two sisters, Tasha Renee Burris - Joulevette of Olive Branch, MS and Shana Renee Burris of Baton Rouge, LA. Rev. Burris considers himself to be a humble servant in God’s Restaurant, the Church, as he serves the Word of God in preaching and teaching.
